The debate over early entrance to kindergarten

Education is a very important part of our lives and all parents want to make sure that their children are given every possible opportunity to gain the best education possible. Many parents prefer to have their children enter kindergarten as early as possible, thinking that this will help them develop and make them more independent. However, there are many specialists who think that entering kindergarten too early can cause anxiety and developmental problems. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle.

Indeed, many children who enter kindergarten early learn to be independent before others. They know that they need to follow the rules, and they will not have authority issues when they enter school. At the same time, they are prepared for primary school and they will not have separation issues. They learn how to communicate with their peers and learn how to make new friends. If a child does not have siblings, kindergarten might be the only place where he can interact with children the same age.

On the other hand, if a child is shy and not able to make friends easily, kindergarten might not have the desired impact on him. Instead of learning how to communicate, he may want to spend his time alone and not take part in group activities. As well, he may get the impression that the parents are trying to push him away and are abandoning him. The kindergarten teacher will make every effort to encourage participation and will give feedback to the parents if it is determined that the child would benefit more by staying at home for another 6-10 months. Some children just need more time to mature and leave babyhood behind.

There isn’t a perfect age when you should send your kid to kindergarten. Instead, you should see if he is prepared to be away from the family and if this will help him in any way. Talking with a professional is necessary. Allow your child to try kindergarten but be prepared if it is determined that the child is just not ready.
