Tips to Settle Arguments between Siblings
There will come a time when brothers and sisters argue with each other. It is common for siblings to be peaceful at one point, and start arguing with each other the next. Siblings learn to interact with other people by learning how to live peacefully with their brother or sister.
A child learns how to see the point of view of another person through one’s interactions with siblings. One learns how to settle disputes, show affection, not hold a grudge, and to compromise. It is important for parents to know when to intervene and help settle arguments among siblings.
Teach Kids How to Handle Conflict
It is important that you teach your children how to handle conflict in a constructive manner. You should make them listen to the other party’s point of view and not engage in name-calling. Children who can work out conflicts on their own will be more able to find compromises in future personal and professional relationships.
Teach the Value of Family
Another thing to teach your kids is the value of family. Explain to them that the family is a team, and everyone must work together to create a peaceful environment at home. They should understand that fights and arguments among members could hurt the entire family.
Listen to All Parties Involved
You should make sure that the kids feel they are being listened to without any interruptions or judgments. Kids feel better after telling their parents their side of the story. Parents should not take sides and provide a fair judgment after listening to both sides of the argument.
Even after an intervention, parents should ask the children about solutions to their conflict. Tell them that the resolutions should be fair to all parties involved.
